Tips for Volunteers
Volunteering is hard work, here are a few tips to make the process easier.

1
Sign in and out
Report to the office to sign in and sign out before and after volunteering.
2
Wear your name badge
Always wear the name badge given to you by the office.
3
Turn off your cell phone
Silence your cell phone when volunteering.
4
Check before bringing food
Check with the class teacher or school administration as some foods may be inappropriate for children with food allergies
5
Sync with the teacher before your visit
If you're working in a classroom, communicate with the teacher to discuss scheduling and duties. Teachers plan around your help so be on time and stick to your agreed to schedule.
6
Be professional
Never interrupt the classroom. Wait until an appropriate moment to ask questions.
If you need to miss your duties, contact the office as early as possible to let the school and teacher know.
7
Keep everyone safe
When working with a student one-on-one, leave doors open and be visible to others.
Respect each student's rights and privacy.
Only discuss student concerns directly with the teacher or school administrator.
8
Remember the "nevers" of volunteering
-
Never discipline students. Work with the teacher or administration if there are discipline issues.
-
Never provide medication to students
-
Never drive school or activity buses
-
Never remove a student off school premises without explicit permission from a school administrator.
-
Never access student records
-
Never photograph students, unless asked by a teacher or administrator.
-
Never give out your personal contact information or email, text or call students.
